Acquisition of Former NHLer Ling Highlights Flurry of Transactions

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John's IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announce today that the club has signed veteran winger and former Brampton Beast standout David Ling to a Standard Player Contract.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia native is returning to Brampton after playing 46 games with the team in the 2014-15 season. During his time with the Beast, Ling recorded 41 points, including nine goals and 32 assists with 79 penalty minutes.

The 41 year-old first joined the professional ranks in the 1995-96 season and his immense hockey talent has earned him a lengthy professional career, playing in the world's top hockey leagues from around the globe, including the IHL, CHL, ECHL, AHL and NHL.

Prior to joining the Beast, Ling spent the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) with the Nottingham Panthers and tallied 14 goals, 32 assists and 83 penalty minutes in only 34 games played.

Ling spent the majority of his career in the American Hockey League, where he suited up for 536 games and recorded 471 points as well as 1357 penalty minutes.

Throughout his career, Ling suited up for a total of 93 NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets and scored four goals and added four assists while adding 191 penalty minutes.

In a separate transaction, the AHL's St. John's IceCaps have reassigned defenceman Dalton Thrower to the Beast.

Thrower, 22, has appeared in eight games for the Beast this season and recorded a pair of assists and 17 penalty minutes.

In eight contests with the IceCaps this season, Thrower has recorded 20 penalty minutes.

In another transaction, Beast defenseman Jeremie Blain has been recalled to the American Hockey League by the Chicago Wolves.

Blain, 23, has been one of the Beast's top defensemen this season, collecting two goals and 22 assists for 24 points in 34 games played.

He has already appeared in five games with the Wolves this season and recorded one goal and two penalty minutes.

The Beast play host to the Toledo Walleye on Friday, February 12 at 7:15 PM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
