Toledo, OH - Defenseman Joel Chouinard has been loaned to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. Forward Dane Walters has been assigned to the Walleye from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. Toledo has traded for defenseman Joe Sova from the Tulsa Oilers in exchange for future considerations.
Sova returns to the Toledo after spending 23 games with the Walleye during the 2013-14 season in which he had nine points (2G, 7A). This season, the 27-year-old has skated in 33 games with the Oilers, posting one goal and two assists with 14 penalty minutes. For his career the native of Berwyn, Illinois has appeared in 215 career games at the ECHL level with 12 goals, 37 assists and 128 penalty minutes. Sova also has 48 contests in the AHL with three goals and 10 assists.
Walters has skated for the IceHogs in 15 games this year with one goal and four penalty minutes. The 26-year-old forward has also collected four points (2G, 2A) and 13 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Walleye this season. A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Walters had a strong season in Toledo last year with nine goals and eight assists in 27 games before joining Rockford to finish the year with six points (1G, 5A) in 19 contests.
Chouinard is one of the highest scoring defensemen in the ECHL this year with 25 points (6G, 19A) which ranks seventh. The Sherbrooke, Quebec native also skated in one AHL game this year for the Chicago Wolves. Last year, the 25-year-old had 20 points (5G, 15A) in 34 for Toledo and then posted another 10 points (5G, 5A) in 27 contests with the Iowa Wild of the AHL. Grand Rapids is on the road for a pair of games Friday and Saturday night at Iowa.
