CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Independence today officially announced 24-year-old defender Patrick Slogic has re-signed with the club for 2016.

Last season Slogic was a key contributor on the Independence defense, a unit that allowed a total of just 35 goals, tied for fifth fewest in the league, and 10 shots per game, tied for sixth fewest in the league. Slogic made 23 starts for the Independence in 2015, with 25 appearances total. He recorded three goals, including a game-winning header against Louisville City FC to secure the Independence's first USL victory.

"We are delighted to have Patrick back with us for 2016," said Independence Head Coach Mike Jeffries. "Patrick was a key contributor last season. Starting most games at outside back, he provided shut down defending as well as the ability to contribute to the attack and factor into set pieces. In addition, Patrick displays great character and heart, qualities we value highly."

A native of Colorado Springs, Co., Slogic is a product of the Colorado Rapids Development Academy and came to Charlotte in 2015 at the recommendation of Rapids Senior Director of Soccer Development Brian Crookham, who also is serving as Independence Technical Director. The Independence and Rapids in September 2014 signed a two-year affiliation agreement. In early 2014, Slogic was picked up by the Columbus Crew in the MLS Combine before ultimately joining the Rochester Rhinos of USL. The 6'6" defender appeared in 16 games that season, recording 846 minutes with four shots and 11 fouls.

Slogic played four years of collegiate soccer at Cornell University (2010-13), anchoring a Big Red defense that in 2013 allowed just 11 goals in 17 games. He earned Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2013 and was a three-time All-Ivy First Team selection. He graduated early in December 2013 and spent time playing for Reading United AC of the USL Premier Development League.

The re-signing of Slogic brings the Independence's preseason roster to 11 contracted players. Additional player signings will be announced in the coming weeks as the Independence receives registration approval from US Soccer. Training camp will begin Feb. 22, following an Open Tryout on Feb. 18-19. The Independence regular season will kick off on March 26, with a 7:00pm match against Louisville City at Ramblewood Stadium in Charlotte.
