BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - As a player in the United States Hockey League, it's hard to deny that the college game is just around the corner. Now for Bloomington Thunder forward Logan Lambdin (Michigan State University) that corner seems even closer. Lambdin announced his commitment to Michigan State University Tuesday night, verbally connecting him to the Big Ten program.

Lambdin revealed his announcement through his personal twitter account saying, "Proud to announce my commitment to play D1 hockey at Michigan State University. Thanks to everyone that's helped me along the way! #SpartyOn" - @Lamby_7.

The native of Carleton, MI refers to his connection with Michigan State as, "an honor to be a part of such an elite program." Lambdin will also be following the family trend, joining his sister in Lansing, MI just an hour and a half from their hometown.

Michigan State is considered a long standing, elite NCAA program with three national championships, 11 appearances in the Frozen Four, and a long list of NHL Alumni. That list includes greats such as Rod Brind'Amour, Duncan Keith, and Ryan Miller. Also on that list is Thunder assistant coach Mike Watt who played for the Spartans from 1994 to 1997 serving as the assistant captain in his final season.

"I went up there for a tour of the campus and then got to watch their practice. After that, Coach Anastos brought me into the office to talk about the school and the program, and then offered me the commitment," commented Lambdin who will be wrapping up his USHL career at the end of the 2015-16 season.

The 20-year-old for the Thunder is in his second USHL season with the team. In his sophomore campaign, Lambdin ranks as the second leading scorer. He has 28 points (17g, 11a) with seven goals coming on special teams. Over his career, Lambdin has 85 games under his belt with 46 points (27g, 19a).

"Bloomington has done everything for me. Every aspect of my game has improved since coming here. I can't thank the staff and program enough for everything," said Lambdin about his development through the USHL.

Lambdin's numbers have trended up since his debut in the league on September 27, 2014. In the inaugural draft, Logan was selected in the seventh round of Phase II by the Thunder. This season, he recorded the club's first hat trick against the Muskegon Lumberjacks on January 9, in route to a 6-3 win. In addition, he was recognized as the CCM Player of the Week for the USHL after scoring three goals and two assists in two games.

The 5-foot-9 winger began his junior hockey career with the now defunct Port Huron Fighting Falcons in 2013-14 where he scored 38 points (19g, 19a) as the second leading point man for the team. Before that he suited up for both Belle Tire and Victory Honda from 2011-2013.

NEXT HOME GAME: Friday, February 12th - 7 p.m. - The Thunder battle with the Green Bay Gamblers to open a weekend series from the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Doors open at 6 p.m. and until puck drop there are $1 draft beers and soft drinks at the Coliseum concession stands. Tickets start at $10 for the game and could go even lower with youth, senior, and military discounts. Call the Thunder office at (309) 434-2980 for more information and the best deals on tickets.
