SAINT JOHN - General Manager Darrell Young has announced the Saint John Sea Dogs have recalled goaltender Alex D'Orio from the Magog Cantonniers of the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League (QMAAA).

D'Orio, 16, is in his second season with Magog. He has a 15-9 record with a 2.56 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in 24 games this season. The Sherbrooke-native also went 1-1 in two games for Canada Black at the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge where he was a teammate of current Sea Dogs forward Joe Veleno.

Listed at 6'1" and 193 lbs, D'Orio was selected by the Sea Dogs in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2015 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft. He appeared in two preseason games with Saint John prior to this season.

"Alex has had a strong season and this is another part of his education process," Young said. "He'll get to experience being part of a winning environment at the major junior level, and watch how this team prepares and fights for top spot in its division."

D'Orio is expected to be available when the Sea Dogs host the Charlottetown Islanders tonight at Harbour Station.

In a corresponding move, goalie Matthew Williams was reassigned to the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Hockey League (MHL).

The Truro, Nova Scotia, native, who turned 18 on Monday, made his Sea Dogs and QMJHL debut against Victoriaville on Saturday. He made five stops in the third period and was charged with the loss in a 5-4 defeat against the Tigres.
