Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa - Versatile Alex Robert will make his way from Waterloo to western Pennsylvania next fall after committing to skate for the Robert Morris University Colonels, the Black Hawks announced Tuesday.

The 21-year-old from Novi, Michigan is spending his third season in the United States Hockey League and second in Waterloo. Used as a defenseman in most circumstances, Robert has answered the call to play forward on several occasions when the Hawks lineup was constrained by injuries. He is one of only four players to appear in all 38 Waterloo games thus far this season and has recorded two goals and eight assists. The Hawks acquired Robert prior to the beginning of last season, following his 2013/14 rookie year with the Green Bay Gamblers.

"Alex's contributions to our team don't usually grab headlines, which is why I am all the happier for him that he has this opportunity," said Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "He is the kind of team-first player every team needs several of, in order to be successful."

The Colonels currently lead the Atlantic Hockey Association with a 14-4-4 conference record. Robert Morris - located near Pittsburgh - joined the conference for the 2010/11 season and won their first regular season title last winter. RMU represented the AHA in the 2014 NCAA Tournament after claiming a conference tournament championship. The last Black Hawk to play for Robert Morris was Chris Margott, who completed his NCAA career in 2009.

Robert is the 19th player on the current Black Hawks roster with a Division I college commitment.

When the Black Hawks played three games in three days between January 29th and 31st, Robert recorded an assist in each contest. He leads Waterloo into another three-game weekend beginning this Friday on the road against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The Hawks return to home ice Saturday versus the Lincoln Stars and Sunday, with a visit from the Sioux City Musketeers.
