February 9, 2016 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Cubs News Release

Jason Vosler was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 16th round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He split time between South Bend and Myrtle Beach after being called up to the Pelicans on July 21, 2015. Vosler played four infield positions (1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base and shortstop) hitting 10 home runs and 40 runs batted in. Last month, we spoke to him about his time in South Bend and his off-season activities.

After the season ended, where was the first place you traveled to?

The season ended for me in Myrtle Beach so the first place I traveled to was back to South Bend. I was able to catch a Notre Dame football game while I was there for a weekend, before heading out to Arizona for Instructional League. That was a pretty cool thing to see!

What are some of your favorite off-season activities?

Most of my off-season activities are preparing for the upcoming season. These are things I enjoy though. It can be weight lifting, hitting, fielding or throwing; I enjoy them all. Besides that I just like hanging out with friends, watching sports, or getting into a good show.

Do you have a favorite moment or event you attended this off-season?

I would have to say my favorite thing I've done this offseason was take a 5-day vacation to Vero Beach, Florida. Being from the Northeast the winters can be pretty cold, so it was really nice to have a relaxing vacation in warm weather.

Do you still keep in touch with some of your teammates from 2015?

Yes, I keep in touch with a lot of my teammates from the 2015 season. We keep in touch mostly via social media or text messaging/Face Timing. Unfortunately, since many of us are scattered across the country it is hard to meet up with them, so I have not been able to do that. But I am looking forward to Spring Training when we all get to see each other again.

Do you have a regular workout routine to prepare for the 2016 season? Is there one particular part of your game you have been working on?

Yes, I have a regular workout routine that I have been following throughout the off-season. I have been working on all aspects of my play. I am working to get stronger and quicker, as well as improving my defensive ability and consistency in my swing and approach at the plate.

What was your favorite part about the 2015 season? Are there any moments that stand out to you personally or a team moment?

I think my favorite moment this year playing for the South Bend Cubs was on opening night when Cael Brockmeyer hit a walk-off home run to win the game in front of an amazing crowd. That was a pretty special night.

How often did your family get to watch or hear you play? Did they ever get to visit during the season?

My family would tune into almost every game throughout the season online or listen to the radio broadcast. They were also able to make it out for a few weekends during the season. They really enjoyed seeing me play in South Bend.

What was your walk-up music for 2015 and why?

My walk up song was G.D.F.R by Flo-Rida. I liked the song because it was a good song that got me pumped up and ready for my at bat.

What is/are your goal(s) for the 2016 season?

My goals for the 2016 season are to play to the best of my ability and to do what I can to help my team win. Personally, I would like to play better defense and to have more consistency in my approach at the plate.

Is there anything you want to tell the fans of the Cubs Organization?

I just think it's a very exciting time to be a Cubs fan. The team at the big league level has an outstanding group of players and the farm system continues to be one of the best in baseball with players who are excited to make it up there someday and have an impact on a World Series team!
