Beast Acquire All-Rookie Defenseman Baker and Experienced AHL Winger Parker from Americans

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John's IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announce today the acquisition of 2014-15 ECHL All-Rookie Team defenceman and Kelly Cup champion Justin Baker and experienced AHL forward Jonathan Parker from the Allen Americans in exchange for Beast defenceman Reggie Traccitto.

Baker, a Toronto, Ontario native, is coming off the best season of his hockey career. In 2014-15, the rearguard suited up for 70 regular season contests with the Americans and picked up 10 goals and 29 assists for 39 points, the twelfth-highest point total of all ECHL defencemen.

His stellar regular season numbers, which included 39 penalty minutes and a remarkable +22 plus/minus rating, earned him a place on the ECHL's 2014-15 All-Rookie Team as one of the league's top rookie blueliners.

Baker and the Americans qualified for the 2014-15 ECHL playoffs where he added another three goals and 10 assists in 25 games played. Baker helped his squad win the Kelly Cup, topping the South Carolina Stingrays in seven games.

Prior to his professional career, the 24 year-old played in the NCAA with St. Lawrence University. He recorded 19 goals and 63 assists for a total of 82 points in 143 games played. In 2013-14, his season last of college hockey, Baker was relied upon for his leadership experience and was named one of the club's assistant captains.

This season, Baker has collected two goals and eight assists for ten points in 17 games played.

The Beast have also acquired experienced right-winger Jonathan Parker from the Americans.

The Solana Beach, California native is enjoying a great season for the Americans and has posted 10 goals and 14 assists in 43 games for Allen this season.

Parker has a career total of 128 ECHL games under his belt, with a variety of teams, including the Americans, Gwinnett Gladiators, Colorado Eagles, Ontario Reign, Indy Fuel and Reading Royals and has a career ECHL total of 37 goals and 56 assists for 93 points.

The 24-year-old has also suited up for 76 American Hockey League contests with the Rochester Americans shared between the 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, where he amassed five goals and seven assists with 17 penalty minutes.

He spent his junior career in the Western Hockey League, first suiting up for the Seattle Thunderbirds for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons and later moved on to play with the Prince Albert Raiders for the end of 2009-10 and all of 2010-11.

The high-flying forward hit his stride with the Raiders in 2010-11 as he notched a team-high 45 goals to accompany his 41 assists, leading his team with 86 points in 71 games played.
