Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - Two of the Cedar Valley's favorite home teams will work together to help the Northeast Iowa Food Bank on Saturday, March 26th during a Waterloo Black Hawks home game at Young Arena.
On Panther Night, the Hawks will take the ice wearing the purple and gold of the University of Northern Iowa Panthers, backed by mascot T.C. and the UNI cheer squad. The first-of-its-kind partnership between the team and university is made possible by Tyson Fresh Meats, who is sponsoring the jerseys. UNI students, staff, and alumni can take advantage of discounted game tickets, and after the matchup against the Green Bay Gamblers, the Hawks/Panthers sweaters will be auctioned to benefit the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, which serves the Cedar Valley within its 16-county service area.
"We want to see everyone's Panther Pride on display in Party Town," said Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene. "This will be a memorable night, but more importantly, it is a partnership which will do a lot of good, and we are grateful to UNI and Tyson for their involvement."
The UNI Panther logo will be displayed prominently on the chest of the primarily white hockey jerseys, highlighted by a purple collar as well as purple and gold bands on the sleeves and around the waist. The Black Hawks' emblem will appear on the top of each shoulder. Sleeve and back numbers will be in purple, outlined in gold, with player names stitched in purple between the shoulders.
"UNI Athletics is proud to partner with the Waterloo Black Hawks for 'UNI Night,'" said Steve Schofield, UNI's deputy athletic director for external operations. "The Northeast Iowa Food Bank does tremendous work in the Cedar Valley and beyond, and we are happy to be a small part of this worthwhile cause."
The Hawks have never previously worn a UNI jersey. The team and Tyson have annually partnered on a variety of specialty uniforms auctioned to benefit the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, including jerseys celebrating seasonal themes like Valentine's Day or St. Patrick's Day.
All seats in Young Arena will be discounted to $8 for UNI students, faculty/staff, and alumni for Panther Night on March 26th. Orders are being accepted currently at the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office, which can be reached at (319) 291-7680.
