Americans Fall to Missouri 3-1
December 27, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - On a stormy North Texas evening, the Allen Americans welcomed the Missouri Mavericks to town in a battle of first and second place teams in the ECHL's Central Division, as the Americans dropped this one, 3-1.
After a short delay because of the inclement weather, the first period started off with a quick two on one opportunity for the Mavericks, as Tanner Fritz made no mistake, giving Missouri the 1-0 lead. However, later in the period, Allen cashed in on a net front scramble, with Johnathan Parker tying things up at 1-1. Parker later was upended by a low hit from C.J. Ludwig, and consequently took exception as the two squared off to even things out.
For a large majority of the second period, there was a good show put on from both starting goaltenders. Missouri's Josh Robinson blanked the Americans in the period, as Allen extended their shot total to 24. Allen's Riley Gill let up the only goal in the period as Sebastien Sylvestre found the back of the net late in the frame, making it 2-1 Mavericks. Tempers flared once again after a questionable hit, this time between Allen's Justin Courtnall and Kyle Burroughs.
In front of an impressive crowd, an offensive outbreak continued to elude the Americans. While Robinson stood strong with 32 saves in the game, Gill was beaten once more, again by Sylvestre, giving the Mavericks the 3-1 lead. That would hold up as the final score in the last home game of the calendar year for the Americans.
This win for Missouri extends their stranglehold on the Central Division and puts them now 20 games above .500 on the season.
The Allen Americans hit the road for an afternoon game at 4:05 P.M. tomorrow, Sunday the 26th, at the Wichita Thunder.
