Three-Goal Run Helps Storm Sweep Weekend, 3-1

December 19, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Tri-City Storm News Release

Omaha, Ne. - The Storm kept up the pace against the Omaha Lancers, scoring the last three goals to surge to a 3-1 win Saturday from the Ralston Arena.

Walker Duehr scored halfway through the second period to tie the game at one. After the prolific forward's second of the season, the Lancers did not lead, surrendering a power-play goal to Dan Labosky and an insurance tally to Wade Allison.

Allison's goal culminated a four-goal weekend after the power forward notched his first USHL hat trick on Friday.

The Storm has points in six straight games, tied with Bloomington and Green Bay for longest in the league entering the Christmas Break.

The strong offense started on the back end with goalie Dayton Rasmussen, who bested Omaha's Zach Skog in net with 28 saves on 29 shots for his second USHL win. Skog took the loss, stopping 18 of 21 Storm shots.

Tri-City's trio of tallies came somewhat unexpectedly after the Lancers controlled the first, scoring the first goal 1:36 into the opening frame courtesy of a left point shot by Michael Bigelbach.

The Storm's second-period offense began on a stilted play. Monte Graham looked for a stuff in front of Skog's net and Duehr found an open net on the left post, trickling it across the line for the Storm's first goal at 11:41 of the middle period. Graham and Andrew Peski took the helpers.

After returning from Injured Reserve last weekend, Duehr has scored two goals and three points in four games. The forward from Sioux Falls, SD spent last season with the Sioux City Musketeers, scoring two goals in 49 games.

Dan Labosky, in his second full season with Tri-City pounced next for a power-play marker, receiving a pass at the right post, striding net front and scoring under Skog's legs with 49 seconds left in the second. Jack McNeely and Alex Limoges worked the play down to Labosky, and both earned the assists.

The Storm finished 1-for-4 on the man up.

As the Storm took the lead, the onus fell on Dayton Rasmussen to continue his strong effort. The 17-year-old did not disappoint, stopping the final 27 shots thrown on cage after yielding the early goal.

Rasmussen's stops set the stage for Allison, who drove the right circle at 6:08 of the third and potted over Skog for his 10th of the season. Allison entered the weekend with six goals. Overall, the 18-year-old scorer has eight goals in his last seven games.

Tri-City took just four penalty minutes, tying a season low, and denied the Lancers on their only power-play chance.

The Storm has a week off before matching the Green Bay Gamblers for a pair of road contests, Monday, Dec. 28 and Tuesday, Dec. 29. Check out both games on The Breeze 94.5 FM at 6:45 p.m. with David Fine for the Viaero Wireless Pregame Show.
