Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Dominik Simon and Scott Wilson scored two goals each as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 4-0 at PPL Center on Friday night.

Simon put the Penguins up 1-0 at 2:49 of the opening frame when he redirected a shot from Tim Erixon, fooling Phantoms netminder Anthony Stolarz.

Simon narrowly missed out on ending Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's scoreless streak on the power play as his goal came 12 seconds after the expiration of a Lehigh Valley penalty, but Scott Wilson made sure to buck the trend with a man advantage marker at 14:59 of the first period.

Wilson wired a one-timer into the top corner on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's second power play of the game, putting the Penguins into a 2-0 lead. Wilson's goal concluded the Penguins' scoreless stretch on the man advantage that had reached 0-for-24.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went up 3-0 on Lehigh Valley thanks to Simon's second goal of the contest and 11th of the year, coming at 16:32 of the second period.

The Penguins' power play struck once more at 14:46 of the third, and again it was Wilson finishing a tic-tac-toe passing play for his team-leading 13th of the season as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton nabbed a 4-0 lead.

Conor Sheary had assists on both of Wilson's tallies, putting Sheary into the No. 1 spot among league leaders in assists with 19.

All comeback attempts by the Phantoms were thwarted by Matt Murray, as the Penguins' goalie stopped all 23 shots faced for his fourth shutout of the season and the 16th of his career, one-shy of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton franchise record (17, Brad Thiessen).

The Penguins finished the game two-for-five on the man advantage while their penalty kill successfully shut down the Phantoms on seven different power play opportunities.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton heads back home for a match up with the Albany Devils on Saturday night. Albany comes into Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza riding a franchise-record seven-game winning streak. Puck drop between the Devils and Penguins is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
