Pirates Top Falcons 5-1

Portland, ME - The Pirates opened their longest home stand of the season with a 5-1 victory over the Springfield Falcons Wednesday night at Cross Insurance Arena.
Portland struck first when Rocco Grimaldi netted an even strength goal 4:51 into the first period. Grimaldi collected the loose puck in the slot and sent it past the blocker of Louis Domingue for his second goal of the season. Rob Schremp and Garrett Wilson tallied assists on the play.
Alex Grant delivered a slap shot from the point nearly five minutes later to even the table for Springfield.
Appearing in his first game since getting injured, Corban Knight dished out a one-timer to regain the lead for Portland.
The Falcons allowed three goals in the second period with Michael Matheson lighting the lamp for his third goal of the season at 11:57. Shane Harper and Grimaldi were credited with the assists on the play.
Grimaldi would capitalize on his second of the night after a turnover in the Falcons offensive zone to extend Portland's lead 4-1.
Schremp finished off the Falcons with a slap shot at the hash marks for his ninth power goal of the season. The goal came at 16:10 and would complete the scoring for both teams.
Pirates' netminder Sam Brittan made 28 saves to improve to a 4-3-0 record. The
Sam Brittan got the start in net for the Pirates, saving 28 of 29 shots by the Falcons. Brittan's 28 saves tonight brings the Gorham Savings Bank Saves for Charity total to $2,270 so far this season.
Friday night is Eric Weinrich Bobblehead Night, presented by Bath Savings Institution, as the Pirates host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The first thousand fans through the gates will get one collectable Eric Weinrich bobblehead, the first of three Pirates NHL Greats Bobbleheads to be given away this season. On Saturday, December 12, the Pirates host Star Wars™ Night against the Providence Bruins at 7:00 p.m. The home stand concludes on Wednesday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. against the Springfield Falcons.
