December 3, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash- The Walla Walla Sweets announced another key signing Thursday morning in their hunt for a West Coast League Championship number one in 2016. This time, they went down to the Emerald Valley to bring two key pieces for this summer. Walla Walla will welcome Oregon Ducks Connor Cannon and Colton Sakamoto for this upcoming season.

Connor Cannon, a 6-foot 4-inch, 230 pound right-handed pitcher, will head to Eugene next year from Temecula, CA. The Oregon commit received Underclassman 2nd Team honors from Perfect Game in 2015. The tall right-hander has a fastball that sits in the low 90's, and team officials are confident he will contribute in a big way for the Sweets in his first year in the WCL.

"Connor Cannon is a hard throwing right hander who will most likely be one of our starters," manager Frank Mutz said. "Connor is a power pitcher who has great command and will be counted on to be one of our top starters."

Colton Sakamoto, a 6-foot, 195 pound outfielder, will begin his college baseball career this spring with the Ducks. The native of Tualatin, OR hit .308 his junior year for Westview High School while hitting lead-off and playing center field for the Wildcats. He was drafted in the 37th round of the 2015 MLB first year player draft (1115th overall), but turned down signing a professional contract to become a Duck.

"Colton Sakamoto will be counted on to hit in the top of the Sweets lineup," Mutz said. "Colton is an very offensive outfielder and should fit nicely in the second spot of the lineup. Sakamoto has a high baseball IQ and will bring stability to a talented outfield."

The Walla Walla Sweets will open the 2016 season of WCL baseball in June of 2016. Season tickets are on sale now. For more information about these and other ticketing options visit wallawallasweets.com, stop by the Sweets Shoppe in downtown Walla Walla, or call 509.522.BALL (2255).
