Texas Stars News Release

CEDAR PARK, Texas - In a game that saw five lead changes and 11 total goals scored, Dennis Rasmussen buried the overtime-winner to lead the Rockford IceHogs to a 6-5 win over the Texas Stars on Wednesday night at Cedar Park Center.

Rasmussen's game-winner came on the power play with 1:57 remaining in overtime from the right circle to beat a screened Jack Campbell. Trailing with just over four minutes to play in regulation, Curtis McKenzie knocked home a rebound goal for the Stars (12-8-1-1) to force the extra frame.

Texas visits the Milwaukee Admirals on Sunday at 3 p.m. CST.

Despite being outscored 12-4 in two prior losses this season to the Stars, the IceHogs (13-5-1-2) took an early lead on an Erik Gustafsson feed from the left circle that Ryan Hartman chipped in past the glove of Campbell 7:50 into the first. Texas quickly answered back just over a minute later when Devin Shore pushed the puck up the ice to Brendan Ranford who fed a backhand pass to Travis Morin charging the crease for his sixth goal of the season and a 1-1 tie. The Stars' Esa Lindell continued his offensive productivity with a slap shot that bounced off Rockford netminder Michael Leighton to set up a rebound goal for Remi Elie at 11:00 to give Texas a 2-1 lead.

In the second, Rockford capitalized at 3:02 with Bryan Bickell tying the game on a power play goal, and Garret Ross gave the IceHogs a 3-2 lead at 4:46 with a wrist shot from the right circle. Texas responded as Morin stopped a clearing attempt from Leighton and swiftly shuffled a pass in the goal crease for Greg Rallo, who chipped in his nine of the season to tie the game again with a power play goal. Julius Honka broke the tie with just under four minutes remaining, blasting a shot from the right point off assists from Justin Dowling and McKenzie. However, the IceHogs came right back to knot the game at 4-4 when Hartman banked a puck from the corner off Campbell for his second of the game.

Gustafsson scored for the IceHogs with 6:02 to play in the third to make it a 5-4 contest before McKenzie forced overtime.

Campbell suffered the loss going 37 of 43 in net after being reassigned earlier on Wednesday from the NHL's Dallas Stars. Leighton earned his AHL-leading 12th win on the year, stopping 32.

The Stars scored a power play goal for the eighth time in their last nine games and finished 1-for-3. Rockford went 1-for-4.

Devin Shore tallied an assist on Morin's first period goal to extend his team-high point streak to eight games.

The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
