Knighthawks Announce Winter Lacrosse Clinics

December 1, 2015 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks Lacrosse Academy, powered by Under Armour®, has announced its boys and girls Winter Lacrosse Clinics. At the two-day clinics, which will take place during the last week of December, kids will learn the game from an all-star lineup of players and coaches.

The Boys Clinic will run from Monday, Dec. 28th to Tuesday, Dec. 29th at Brighton Sports Zone, while the Girls Clinic is scheduled from Wednesday, Dec. 30th to Thursday, Dec. 31st at the facility located at 3195 Brighton Henrietta Townline Rd. The clinics are a great opportunity for kids to learn the finer points of lacrosse through drills that are used at Knighthawks' practices.

"The holiday season is always my favorite time of year because you are gearing up for the season," said Knighthawks forward Dan Dawson, who will work at the boys and girls clinics. "Running camps lets me interact with local fans and players. Heading into the season, it's something that I am excited to do. I look forward to getting more involved in the lacrosse community in the Rochester area."

The clinics, which will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to noon, are geared to players ages 6-16. The cost is $99 per player and includes six hours of world-class instruction, daily scrimmages, and a ticket to the Knighthawks' home opener on Saturday, Jan. 9th vs. the Colorado Mammoth. Additional tickets for friends and family are also available for only $10. Click here to register .

The Girls Clinic will feature Dawson and former Division I All-American Heidi Rothfuss-Rasmussen. Rothfuss-Rasmussen, who played collegiately at Penn State, will work alongside former Pittsford Sutherland High School All-American and James Madison University star Ali Curwin.

At the Boys Clinic, instructors will include two-time NLL champion Dan Dawson, four-time All-American and three-time NLL champion Joe Walters, Knighthawks and U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Famer Tim Soudan, and Team USA Indoor forward Blaze Riorden.

Walters, who recently re-signed a four-year deal with the team, will enter his eighth season with the Knighthawks in 2016. Last season, he set career highs in goals (20), assists (33) and points (53). The former University of Maryland and Irondequoit High School star will once again give back to the local lacrosse community.

"I am looking forward to working with youth players at our winter clinics," said Walters. "It's a great time to enjoy the holidays and work on lacrosse skills as well."

Soudan was a member of the franchise's inaugural Hall of Fame Class in 2009 after spending 11 seasons with the hometown Knighthawks. The Fairport native played with the Knighthawks from the team's inception in 1995 to 2005, and was instrumental in helping Rochester win its first NLL title in 1997. Now kids will get a chance to learn from a local lacrosse legend. "I love working with the little guys and having a chance to represent the Knighthawks at a clinic," said Soudan. "It's always fun to give back to the community. It's a situation where you have young kids hungry to learn from some of the best guys that have played the game in the area. I am excited for it."
