Weekend Recap: Chill Struggle Back at Home

December 1, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Coulee Region Chill News Release

After going 3-1 in Alaska the two weekends before, the Coulee Region Chill fail to pick up a win this past week.

Coulee Region Chill 1, Austin Bruins 4

The first period in last Wednesday nights game saw both the Bruins and the Chill both score.  Austin scored first 15:39 into the period but the Chill knotted it up 12 seconds before the 1st intermission on a short-handed goal by Michael Wilson.

The story of the second period was the Chills ability to keep Austins' Gilber Gabor from scoring on the power play.  Of the two penalties committed by Coulee Region in the second, Gabor scored on both of them, one at 2:04 and the other at 12:08 into the period.  Evan Cholak finished out the scoring for the Bruins at the 16:56 mark in the second.

Both Chill goalies saw action throughout the contest.  Hunter Vorva saved 19/23 shots before Matiss Kivlenieks came in for relief at the 36:56 mark, going on to save 7/7 shots.  Robbie Goor picked up the win for Austin.

Coulee Region Chill 3, Minnesota Magicians 4

Friday nights contest started out fast and furious for the Chill.  Nico Luka and Brady Ferner both scored off of power-play goals to put the team up 2-0 but the Magicians handled the second half of the first, Pierce Crawford scoring on a power-play goal himself and Casey Jerry scoring with teams at full strength.

The only action in the second was a second goal from Jerry to put the Magicians up 3-2.  Mitch Slattery scored midway through the third to put Minnesota up 4-2 for 44 seconds. That's when Chill forward Shane Kuzmeski made it interesting down the stretch to come within one but that's all the Chill had for the Magicians on blue Friday at the Green Island Ice Arena.

Kivlenieks took the start for the Chill and saved 20/24 shots; Will Ulrich saved 34/37 shots for the Magicians and picked up the win.

Coulee Region Chill 2, Minnesota Magicians 5

The Magicians returned to La Crosse on Sunday afternoon and got off to the same fast start the Chill got off to a couple nights before.  Alex Lambacher scored first and Crawford scored his second power-play goal on the weekend to put the Magicians up 2-0 after one.  The second was a back-and-forth battle with Justin Kendall and Wilson both finding twine for the Chill and Owen Larson and Jerry both scoring for the Magicians.  The thrid period was quiet until Braxton Collins scored on an empty net goal with one second left in the contest to bring the final score to 5-2, Magicians.

The Chill continued to pepper Ulrich with shots just like the Friday night before, this time putting 47 on him.  He was too much, however, saving 45 through the night.  Vorva was in net for the Chill, saving 19/23.

The Chill are in action this weekend with a weekend series against the Springfield Jr. Blues away from home.  Friday and Saturday night games will both start at 7:05.
