WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed outfielder Josh Romanski on Tuesday morning.

Romanski returns to North America after playing last season for Mitsubishi of the Japan Industrial League. In 2014, Romanski was one of the best players in the American Association, hitting .311 with seven home runs and 60 RBI for the Gary SouthShore RailCats. The Corona, California native added 56 runs scored, 17 doubles, four triples, 11 stolen bases, and seven outfield assists. A former left-handed pitcher in the New York Yankees' and Chicago White Sox' organizations, 2014 was Romanski's first full professional season as a position player. The 29-year-old Romanski hit safely in 70 of 96 contests during his year with the RailCats, and went consecutive games without a base hit just five times. In 10 head-to-head games against the Goldeyes, Romanski was 18-for-37 (.486) with seven runs scored and five RBI.

"We're excited to add Josh Romanski to the club," said Goldeyes' manager Rick Forney. "Josh had a great season with the RailCats in 2014, and we expect him to be a key contributor both offensively and defensively in 2016."

Romanski was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers as a position player out of the University of San Diego (San Diego, California) in 2008. The former fourth-round pick appeared in four games that summer before having his season cut short due to injury. Romanski--who also bats from the left side--later signed with the Yankees, and posted a 3.54 ERA during four seasons on the mound that included three stints at the Double-A level and one other at Triple-A. The 6-foot, 195- pound Romanski earned NCAA All-American honors in each of his three collegiate seasons at San Diego. A two-way threat for the Toreros, Romanski hit a combined .318 while going 23-6 on the mound with a 3.70 ERA.

Romanski is the second player the Goldeyes have signed to a contract for the 2016 season.
