Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Medicine Hat, AB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings first ever trip to Medicine Hat's new Canalta Centre was a good one.

Jayce Hawryluk scored twice, including the game winner at the 5:51 mark of the third period as the Wheat Kings edged the Tigers 4-3.

The Florida Panthers' draft choice added an assist as he eclipsed the 200-point plateau in his Western Hockey League career.

Brandon jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and had a 3-2 advantage through forty minutes. Hawryluk's game winning tally came three minutes after the Tigers had tied the game.

John Quenneville and Reid Duke also scored for the Wheat Kings, who improved to 15-8-0-2 on the season. Brandon remains three points back of the Eastern Division leading Prince Albert Raiders, who scored a come from behind 2-1 win over the Broncos in Swift Current.

Matt Bradley, Max Gerlach and Chad Butcher scored in a losing cause for the Tigers, who were outshot 30-28.

Rookie Logan Thompson improved his personal record to 8-1-0 by turning aside 25 shots, including twenty through the final two periods of play. With the win, the Wheat Kings salvaged a split in their 2-game weekend Alberta road trip.

The Wheat Kings will return home before heading out on Wednesday night to play the Broncos in Swift Current. The game will be the first between the two teams since last week's trade that saw Mark Taraschuk move from Brandon to Swift Current in exchange for Wawanesa product Jordan Thomson.

Brandon will then return home to play six of seven games at Westman Place, including back to back games against Regina and Saskatoon on Friday and Saturday, December 4th and 5th.

Tickets to both games - presented by Mr. Rooter and Accel Towing - go back on sale at the Keystone Centre box office on Monday morning. Fans can also purchase online at keystonecentre.com or by calling (204) 726-3555.
