West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (11-5-2-0) broke a 2-2 third period tie and defeated the Allen Americans (12-8) 4-2 on Saturday night at Maverik Center.

Utah takes both games on the weekend from Allen after a 7-3 win on Friday.

Roberts Lipsbergs tipped in a Corey Fienhage shot 2:32 into the third period to give the Grizzlies a 3-2 lead that they would hold on to. The Grizzlies outshot Allen 20-5 in the period that was capped off by a T.J. Syner empty-net goal in the final seconds. Syner fired the puck the full length of the ice off of a Chris Rawlings save as Allen skated with an extra-attacker.

"I thought we played a really good game there in the third period," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "We were manufacturing shots, playing the right way, not cheating, playing a great puck possession game and it was just shift after shift."

Rawlings stopped 26 of 28 shots to earn his first win with the Grizzlies.

"Rawlings played phenomenal," said Branham. "They have some dynamite players over there, some guys who can put the puck in the net. He looked composed the entire game, made the saves easy, played the puck well; I definitely liked what I saw from Chris tonight."

After a scoreless first period, the Grizzlies tied the contest 45 seconds after falling behind early in the second period as Eric Knodel fired in a puck through traffic as Bryan Moore created a screen in front of the net despite playing without a stick. Matt Berry also picked up an assist.

"The goalies in this league are so good," said Branham. "You have to make sure you're putting pressure on them and taking away their eyes and we've really been making that a point of emphasis."

Utah made it 2-1 3:18 later at 7:24 of the period on a power-play goal from Alex Krushelnyski as he walked in on a setup from Charles Sarault.

Moore picked up his second assist of the night on the play. Allen would force a tie on a second chance and the game was tied going to the third.

"You can win games alone on the power-play," said Branham. "With our puck possession game, we should be on the power-play a lot. Our skill guys can really rack up the points on the power-play as long as we bare down."

The Grizzlies went one-for-five on the power-play and three-for-three on the penalty-kill.
