Caps Rematch with Cheese Cup Rival Gamblers

November 28, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols (7-11-0-0) will look to retake the season series lead against the Green Bay Gamblers (12-6-0-1) on Saturday night at the Alliant Energy Center for the third installment of the Wisconsin Cheese Cup in 2015. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.

The Capitols won the season opener between the two Wisconsin clubs, unleashing a six-goal attack in a 6-4 win on Oct. 9. However, since that first meeting, the Gamblers have been among the best teams in the USHL, resting in first place in the Eastern Conference entering play on Saturday.

Since the loss on Oct. 9, Green Bay has a 12-3-0-0 record, thanks in large part to the play of goaltender Adam Huska. The New York Rangers prospect has nine victories while posting USHL-best figures in save percentage (.939) and goals-against average (1.77).

The Capitols outshot the Gamblers 38-28 in the clubs' last meeting on Nov. 17 at the Resch Center in Green Bay, but Huska's 37 saves provided the difference in a 4-1 Gamblers win.

Madison has been victimized by great goaltending on multiple occasions in November. On Friday night, the Capitols unleashed 38 shots at Cedar Rapids goaltender Ben Blacker, including a 16-7 discrepancy in the opening period, but the RoughRiders goaltender only wavered once in what would become a 4-1 triumph.

The Capitols have scored two or fewer goals in five of their last six games and have just 25 goals in their last 12 games overall. Sam McCormick has led the way for the Madison offense, scoring a team-high eight goals through his first 17 games.

Madison will have to try to stop the white-hot Gamblers, who have seven victories away from home this season, a league best mark. While no Gambler has a point-per-game pace, they do have seven players who have eclipsed 10 points through just 19 games.

Tickets to the third installment of the Wisconsin Cheese Cup series, presented by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, are available by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277) or visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com. Fans will receive specialty mustaches on Saturday to help promote men's health awareness to conclude "Movember."

Following the conclusion of Saturday's battle, the Capitols stay at home for a two-game Saturday-Sunday series next weekend against the Fargo Force. Tickets for Dec. 5 (7 p.m.) and Dec. 6 (4 p.m.) are on sale via www.MadCapsHockey.com or through the Capitols' ticket hotline, (608) 257-CAPS (2277).
