Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Steel (8-9-2-1, 19 points) won their third straight game, a 3-1 victory over the Dubuque Fighting Saints (11-7-0-0, 22 points) Friday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Tanner Laczynski scored two goals and Billy Sweezey scored his first career USHL goal, the game-winner, in the victory.

The Fighting Saints put the pressure on early and came away with the first goal of the game. Saints defenseman Joey Keane brought the puck into the offensive zone along the left boards and found a streaking Baron Thompson at the far post who redirected the puck past Daniel Vladar's glove at the 5:12 mark for his first USHL tally. The Steel responded two minutes later when Tanner Laczynski found the back of the net. Brandon Duhaime drove towards the net and put a shot off the right blocker of Fighting Saints goalie Jaxon Castor. Laczynski followed up the play and lifted the loose puck over the fallen netminder, knotting up the score 1-1.

In the second, defenseman Billy Sweezey's goal gave Chicago the lead midway through the second period. Max Zimmer found the open defenseman at the blue line. Sweezey skated toward the right point and fired a wrist shot past the glove of Castor to give Chicago a 2-1 advantage. The Steel took the lead into the locker room at the end of the second frame.

Chicago held on defensively to close out the game. Daniel Vladar stopped all 13 shots he faced in the third period. Dubuque pulled their goalie with just over two minutes to play and Laczynski picked the pocket of the Fighting Saints defenseman and skated the other way leading to an empty net goal.

With the two goals, Laczynski has now tallied eight points in the past four games. Daniel Vladar was tough to beat as he made 32 saves on 33 shots on net. The Steel have now earned at least one point in seven of their last eight contests.

The Steel visit Dubuque Saturday for the back end of a home-and-home weekend against the Fighting Saints. Chicago's next home game is Thursday, December 10 at Fox Valley Ice Arena. The Steel will take on the Youngstown Phantoms at 7 p.m. CST on Star Wars Night - Defeat the Phantom Menace. It's College Night where students with a valid ID receive a $12 ticket including a $5 beverage voucher.
