Stingrays Add Louis Belisle and Ryan Ruikka to Roster

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that they have added forward Louis Belisle and defenseman Ryan Ruikka to the roster.

Belisle, 24, rejoins the Stingrays after appearing in one preseason game with the club. He started the regular season with the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), scoring 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in 11 games. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound forward scored 33 points (16 goals, 17 assists) in 56 games with Columbus last season.

The Quebec native played four years at Middlebury College and served as team captain his senior season before turning professional.

Ruikka, a native of Chelsea, Michigan, started the season with the Wichita Thunder, appearing in 11 games and registering one assist. He moved stateside after spending two seasons overseas in Finland and France.

Ruikku, who stands at 6-foot, 201-pounds, skated at Boston University for four seasons from 2008-2013 before turning pro. With the Terriers, Ruikka served as an alternate captain his senior season and posted 19 points in 97 career games. He was also twice a member of the NCAA All-Academic Team.

The Stingrays continue their 10-game road trip in Orlando on Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop. Fans are invited to catch the games at the Official Watch Party Destination of the Stingrays, King Street Grille-Northwoods.
