 Medicine Hat Tigers

Game 22: November 27 vs. Red Deer

November 27, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

VS. REBELS: Tonight marks the first meeting between these two teams since the epic comeback by the Tabbies on November 1st when Medicine Hat came back from a 5-2 deficit in the third period, scoring with only 1 second left to tie the game, resulting in a 6-5 shootout loss. The Tigers are winless against the Rebels so far this season. Steven Owre has 4 points in the 2 games played this season, while the Rebels will see a different goaltender as departed Austin Lotz started both games for Medicine Hat this season.

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP:

Red Deer has won 3 of their last 4 games and is coming off a 5-2 victory in Cranbrook Wednesday night. Red Deer is also 7-3-0-0 in their past 10 games

Medicine Hat has 1 win in their past 4 games (2-1 over Everett) and are 3-5-1-1 in their past 10 games

Red Deer currently leads the Eastern Conference with their 17 victories and 34 points and have also scored the most goals in East with 98 in 25 games (3.92 goals per game)

2015-16 WHL RANKINGS: Record (7-11-2-1). Central Div. - 5th Eastern Con. - 11th Home - (6-6-0-1) Away (1-5-2-0)

TIGERS FAST FACTS:

Chad Butcher picked up an assist vs. Prince George and extended his point streak to 7 games, recording 3 goals and 7 assists over that span and sits one game back of Steven Owre's 8 game point streak earlier this season for the longest streak

Meanwhile, Owre, who had 16 points in 10 games prior to the November 17th matchup against Regina, has found himself in a cold streak going pointless in 4 straight games, which hasn't happened since the 2013-14 season when Owre went 6 games without a point from March 5th to 16, 2014

The Rebels are 7-2-0-0 against the Central Division this season, while Medicine Hat also has a winning record, sitting at a 4-3-1-1 record

GOALIES: When Medicine Hat acquired 20 year old Mack Shields from the Prince George Cougars they knew they could count on the netminder to give them good games every night in between the posts. What the Tigers also got in Shields is experience in the Central Division, one of the hardest and most competitive divisions in the WHL. Shields has fared well against one of his former rivals while with the Calgary Hitmen, recording 5 victories in 7 appearances in his career against Red Deer and posting a 0.906 save percentage over that same span. Additionally, if Nick Schneider starts in net for Medicine Hat, it would mark his first ever career start against the Rebels.

LEAVING ON A BUS: For the Medicine Hat Tigers the next stretch of games come on the road, as do many games in the final month of 2015 as the first week long road trip occurs starting Monday in the Western British Columbia. The boys will travel to Victoria to kick off a 4 game in 5 night stretch, a grueling grind for any hockey player and it sees lots of hours on the bus and many late nights. After Victoria, the Tabbies have a date with last year's scoring leader Trevor Cox and the Vancouver Giants before heading over to Kelowna and Kamloops. Medicine Hat will play 14 games in the month of December but fans will only see 4 of those at the Canalta Centre, starting December 9th against these same Rebels.
