Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators fell 4-3 in overtime to the visiting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The B-Sens, who managed to take a 3-2 lead after netting three unanswered goals, failed to hang on while being outshot 41-21 over the course of the contest.
The Peguins jumped out to a two-goal lead early in the opening frame with goals from Carter Rowney and Kael Mouillerat just 1:10 apart. Working the game's first man-advantage, the B-Sens cut the Penguins lead to 2-1 off of Eric O'Dell's eighth tally of the season. Cole Schneider and Patrick Mullen earned the assists as Binghamton went into the first intermission trailing the visitors 2-1 despite holding a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal.
Despite being outshot 20-3 over the middle frame, Binghamton managed to even the score with the lone strike of the period and their second power-play goal of the night. Mullen held the puck in at the blue line before sending a low wrister towards the goal mouth where Schneider's stick was awaiting to redirect the puck into the back of the net. O'Connor stood tall, turning aside all 20 shots faced in the period to send the teams to the final break knotted 2-2.
The B-Sens took their first lead of the evening just past the four minute mark of the final period. O'Dell caused a turnover deep in the Penguins zone with the puck finding Ryan Dzingel's stick that finished top shelf for his fifth score of the season. Dominik Simon brought it back to a tie game with his seventh goal of the year with a little over six minutes to play in the last frame. The 60 minutes came to an end with the game tied 3-3 pushing the B-Sens into their third overtime this season.
Derrick Pouliot gave the Penguins the win with 1:05 left to play in overtime with Mouillerat and Conor Sheary picking up the assists.
Matt O'Connor turned away 37 shots in the losing effort while Matt Murray stopped 18 shots to get his ninth win of the year.
