Mavericks Win Eighth Straight Game

WICHITA, KS - The Missouri Mavericks won their eighth straight game on Saturday night with a 5-2 victory over the Wichita Thunder. The Mavericks remain atop the ECHL with twenty-seven points after the win tonight, and improve their record in the Independence Cup Rivalry Series, presented by Independence Tourism, to fourteen points over the Thunder's one point.
The winner of the Independence Cup Series will be determined by the team with the highest point total through the Mavericks and Thunder's fifteen-game regular season series. The winning team will be presented with a donation for their youth hockey program by their opponent.

Missouri was first on the board only 1:17 into play when Tyler Barnes scored with the help of Jesse Root and Kellen Jones. The Mavs then expanded their lead 2-0 over the Thunder at 2:46 via a blue line rocket from Pat Cullity. Rocco Carzo was credited with the lone assist on the play.
The Mavericks furthered their command of the opening frame when rookie Scott Allen scored his second goal of the season for Missouri at 15:01 with the help of Carzo and Trevor Ludwig. The Thunder answered back with their first tally of the game only thirty-three seconds later when Andrew Huff scored for Wichita. Eric Springer and Mason Baptista were credited with the assists.
Just over a minute later, Danick Gauthier doubled the Thunder's efforts to cut into the Mavericks lead 3-2, with the assistance of Kenton Miller and Peter Sakaris.
The Mavericks stepped up their lead with a power-play goal at 14:44 of the second frame when Jesse Root scored with the help of Andrew Courtney and Tyler Barnes.
Root added his name to the scoresheet again when he scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 5:45 of the third period to seal a Mavericks 5-2 win over the Wichita Thunder.
The Mavericks eight-game win streak is the longest win streak in the ECHL this season thus far.
The Mavs play their next three games at home, pairing up against the Quad City Mallards on Nov. 25, and the Indy Fuel on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 at Silvertstein Eye Centers Arena.
