South Carolina Stingrays News Release
DULUTH, GA - Mark Dekanich returned to the South Carolina Stingrays net in grand fashion on Saturday night. The netminder stopped 39 shots to earn the shutout in a 3-0 victory over the Atlanta Gladiators Saturday night at the Infinite Energy Center. The goaltender, making his first start since sustaining a lower-body injury on October 25, was helped by a pair of points from forward Brett Cameron and Tyler Lewington's first professional goal.
Despite playing the night before, the Stingrays jumped out front of the rested Atlanta squad early in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. The Stingrays struck first at the 6:07 mark on Colin Mulvey's third goal of the season. Joe Devin moved the puck to Cameron on the left wing. The forward made a power move to the net and was denied by Atlanta goaltender Kent Patterson. A rebound sat loose in the crease, and Mulvey beat an outstreched Patterson to make it 1-0 South Carolina.
The Stingrays would add to the lead in the final minute of the period on Cameron's fourth goal of the season. The Stingrays won an offensive zone faceoff back to the left point. Defenseman Brendan Ellis snapped a wrist shot towards the goal that redirected to Cameron in the slot. The forward's quick shot beat a startled Patterson to make it 2-0 South Carolina with only 32 seconds left in the opening period.
The lone goal of the third period came from Lewington. The defenseman came out of the penalty box to join a two-on-one rush for the Stingrays. Austin Fyten dished the puck over to him on the right wing, and Lewington fired a wrist shot that beat Patterson over the glove to make it 3-0 at 10:40 of the third period.
The Stingrays head to Orlando on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. game versus the Solar Bears. All road games air at King Street Grille-Northwoods and fans 21 and up may enjoy a special offer of $3 Drafts, including Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, Shocktop and Landshark during all Stingrays Watch Parties at King Street Grille.
