Falcons Lose Second Straight in 4-1 Setback

Springfield, MA - Springfield dropped their second game in as many nights with a 4-1 loss to the Providence Bruins on Saturday night.
Providence tallied the first goal of the game from Rob Bordson. The forward scored his first of the season after exiting the penalty box with an assist from Brandon DeFazio at 5:26. Providence's goaltender Zane McIntyre only faced four shots in the period. Nicklas Treutle stopped 10 of 11 shots.
The Falcons tied the game 4:40 into the second period with a goal from Matthias Plachta on the power play. Alex Grant and Domenic Monardo assisted on the forward's first goal of the season. Roughly nine minutes later, Tommy Cross regained the lead for Providence with a shot just over the shoulder of Treutle. His first of the season was assisted by Seth Griffith and Austin Czarnik. Providence moved into the third period with a 2-1 lead.
Providence struck for two more goals in the third period to seal their win and snap the seven-game winless streak. Noel Acciari scored his second of the season at 6:38 with assists from Ben Youds and Ben Sexton. An empty net goal concluded the scoring with 1:07 left in regulation. Brandon DeFazio scored his second of the year with assists from Acciari and Chris Breen. Treutle stopped 23 shots in the loss while McIntyre made 20 saves for his third win of the year.
The Falcons conclude the weekend of games with a 5 p.m. contest in Bridgeport tomorrow night against the Sound Tigers. The game can be heard live on NewsRadio560 WHYN.
