Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY -- The Albany Devils erased a two goal deficit in the third period only to see the game slip away during the last 5:08. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguin Conor Sheary scored on a redirect in front to help his team to a 5-3 victory Saturday at Times Union Center.
The Penguins, who had their 11-game winning streak snapped during a 3-1 loss at Binghamton Friday, added an empty net goal with 13 seconds remaining to produce the final result.
The loss was Albany's first during regulation since Oct. 30 against Bridgeport. Since then the team had gone 6-0-2-0 and are now 9-4-3-0 on the season. First-place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton improves to 13-2-0-0.
The Devils trailed 3-1 after two periods, but battled back in the third. Reid Boucher scored on a wrister off a faceoff at 1:07.
Moments later, Boucher intercepted a pass, creating a two-on-one. His shot was denied by Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry, but Paul Thompson was on the doorstep for the put back at 8:30.
In the closing minutes, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton capitalized on a wrister from the point. Seconds after Joe Faust had his stick slashed out of his hands, Scott Wilson sent the puck towards the net. Sheary tipped the shot, which deflected off Faust and past netminder Yann Danis.
Oskar Sundqvist finished the scoring into the empty net.
Danis suffered his first regulation loss since Oct. 10 -- the first game of the season. Despite the loss, he is 8-2-3 with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.
Albany returns to Times Union Center Wednesday for a 7 pm matchup against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
