Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings will be hoping to close out their 5-game Western Hockey League home stand on a winning note Friday night when they play host to the visiting Regina Pats at Westman Communications Group Place.
Friday night is Operation Red Nose Night, presented by Manitoba Public Insurance.
Operation Red Nose kicked off in Brandon this week, with an appeal for volunteers to help keep drunk drivers off the roads during the festive season.
"ORN is one of our many joint initiatives with MPI to encourage Manitobans to drive responsibly," Judy Murphy, president and CEO of Safety Services Manitoba recently told reporters in Brandon. "In this case, contacting Operation Red Nose ensures that we all work together to keep impaired drivers off Manitoba streets."
Operation Red Nose ensures that both you and your vehicle arrive home safely. This service is provided free of charge but donations are gladly accepted. All money raised supports various youth programs across Manitoba.
"Operation Red Nose is just one of many reasons why no Manitoban has to drive after drinking this holiday season, or accept a ride from someone who has," said Ward Keith, Vice-President, Business Development & Communications and chief product officer, Manitoba Public Insurance.
"Our corporation believes in giving back to communities, supporting community based road safety programs. Operation Red Nose is proof that a simple idea, sustained by strong community involvement, can save lives and keep Manitoba roadways safe."
This year marks the program's 21st anniversary in Manitoba, with volunteers needed in 10 host communities across the province.
Brandon is one of ten communities with Operation Red Nose this holiday season. Others participating include Flin Flon, Gimli, Portage la Prairie, Selkirk, Shilo, Steinbach, The Pas, Thompson and Winnipeg.
Operation Red Nose opens for service in Brandon on Friday, November 27th and wraps up on New Year's Eve, December 31st.
For those interested in volunteering, application forms are available locally at CAA Manitoba or by calling 204-728-6673.
As for the Wheat Kings, they enter Friday's game with a record of 13-7-0-2 and sit in second place in the WHL's Eastern Division, three points back of the front running Prince Albert Raiders.
Tickets to Saturday's game are on sale now at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
