Alaska Aces News Release
EVANSVILLE, INDIANA - The Alaska Aces rode a huge second period scoring burst, highlighted by Garet Hunt's two goals, and cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Evansville Icemen Wednesday at the Ford Center
Justin Breton opened the scoring for the Aces at 14:01 of the first period with his 7th goal of the season. Breton broke into the Evansville zone and muscled his way to the low right wing circle. He unleashed a wicked backhand shot the zipped over the shoulder of Icemen goaltender Keegan Asmundson and under the crossbar. Evansville outshot Alaska 12-9 in the period.
Alaska pulled away from the Icemen in the second period. Hunt started the scoring party at 5:53 with his second goal of the season. About three minutes later, Hunt struck again with a severe angle shot that hit Asmundson in the back and bounced into the net at 8:57. Then Felix Poulin got his first goal of the season for Alaska at 9:31, prompting Evansville coach Al Sims to pull Asmundson in favor of backup goalie Dustin Carlson. At 18:14, Tommaso Traversa banged in a rebound of a Stephen Perfetto close-range shot, and it was 5-0 Alaska after two periods. The Aces outshot the Icemen 16-11 in the period.
In the third period, Evansville's Tyson Fawcett gave the home team some hope with consecutive goals at 4:03 and 11:27, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when William Wrenn slid a gorgeous pass from behind the goal line to a wide open Tomasso Traversa in front of the Icemen net to complete the scoring at 6-2 Alaska.
Wrenn had 3 assists for the Aces. Breton finished with 1 goal and 2 assists. Evansville outshot Alaska 17-3 in the third period, 39-27 for the game.
Troy Redmann was outstanding in the Alaska net, making 37 saves. Asmundson and Carlson combined for 21 saves for Evansville
The Aces now travel to Moline, Illinois for a Friday contest with Quad City Mallards at the iWireless Center to wrap up their 6 game Midwest road trip.
The Aces return home for a three-game series with Evansville starting Friday, November 27. Get your tickets by stopping by the Aces ticket office Monday through Friday from 9-5 at 15th and Gambell, or go online at www.alaskaaces.com.
