Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Wednesday that wide receiver Devon Hughes has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster on a one-year rookie contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 24-year-old Hughes (6'1", 190) a Georgia native, is set to begin his career in the Arena Football League. Hughes joins an impressive Sharks wide receiver group with veteran stars Tiger Jones, London Crawford, and Joe Hills as teammates.

Prior to his start in the Arena Football League, Hughes attended the University of Buffalo, where he was a key playmaker in the Bull's offense over the course of his four-year collegiate career. Hughes combined for 91 receptions resulting in 957 career yards and 11 touchdowns. His senior season Hughes had a 92-yard touchdown reception, the longest for the Bulls in 2014. A proven impact player Hughes combined for 120 yards on five receptions during a 37-7 crushing defeat over Norfolk State his senior year. Described by his college coaches as an explosive player with great speed and body control, Hughes looks to make an impact in his professional career with the Sharks. The rookie wide receiver will certainly have an elite group of veterans to learn from going into the 2016 season.

A native of Tyrone, Georgia, Hughes became a first-team All-Region player at Sandy Creek High School. During his time at Sandy Creek, Hughes had 37 receptions for 600 yards and six touchdowns. He also led his team to a state championship in 2009 under coach Chip Walker. Hughes also competed in varsity basketball and track for Sandy Creek High.
