Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Waterloo Black Hawks forward Ronnie Hein has committed to play for Ohio State University at the conclusion of his junior hockey career, the Hawks announced Wednesday.

The 18-year-old forward from Chelsea, Michigan, was named the Hawks' captain last month. Hein is currently tied for third in team scoring with ten points (three goals, seven assists). He also ranks second on the squad with a +8 plus/minus differential. Last season, Hein joined the Black Hawks on a fulltime basis in January, skating in 33 contests by season's end, with 11 goals - including three game-winners - and ten assists.

Hein's 2014/15 Waterloo teammate, John Wiitala, is currently a freshman on the Buckeye squad and has recorded two goals in his first eight appearances. First-year Waterloo assistant coach Bryce Anderson is also an Ohio State alumnus. Anderson played in Columbus from 2003/04 to 2006/07.

Sixteen Black Hawks currently have NCAA Division I college commitments. The Big Ten Conference will be the destination for a quarter of those players. In addition to Hein, Sam Rossini and Garrett Wait are bound for Minnesota, while Tony Stillwell is a future Wisconsin Badger.

Hein has a goal and two assists in two career regular season games against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Waterloo faces the Bucs for the first time in 2015/16 on Friday at Young Arena. For tickets, call the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or visit waterlooblackhawks.com.
