SJ Barracuda Extend Point Streak to Three Games After 2-1 Shootout Loss in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA -The San Jose Barracuda (5-6-0-2, 12pts) presented by Barracuda Networks dropped a 2-1 shootout decision to the host Bakersfield Condors (6-6-0-1, 13pts) in front 7,554 fans at the Rabobank Arena on Wednesday morning during a special school day game. The Barracuda's season long seven game road trip continues in Stockton on Saturday at 7:30pm vs. the Heat.

Bryan Lerg scored in the third period for the Barracuda to force overtime while Aaron Dell made 27 saves in net as San Jose is now 2-1-0-1 on their season long seven game road trip. Marc-Olivier Roy scored a first period goal for the Condors while Laurent Brossoit made 37 saves in net and stopped all three shooters in the shootout for the win.

A quick paced first period saw the Condors grab a 1-0 lead though 20 minutes of play. Marc-Olivier Roy (1st) scored on a wrap-around opportunity past goaltender Aaron Dell at 8:43 of the opening frame. Each team fired five shots on goal as San Jose was unsuccessful on the only power play chance.

The Barracuda outshot the Condors 18-7 in the second period but goaltender Laurent Brossoit stole the show for Bakersfield as neither team found the back of the net. Condors' forward Matthew Ford was ejected for an elbow to the head of Ryan Carpenter at 14:03 but the Barracuda were unable to score on the ensuing five minute major power play. San Jose trailed 1-0 after 40 minutes despite outshooting Bakersfield 23-12.

Captain Bryan Lerg (6th) tied the score at 1-1 at 6:38 of the third period after Ryan Carpenter threw the puck towards the net from the left wall and Lerg was stationed on top of the crease and deflected it home past the Condors netminder. Each team fired 13 shots on goal in the third period as the two teams headed into overtime tied 1-1.

Barclay Goodrow was stopped on a breakaway in overtime as neither team could find the back of the net in another entertaining 3-on-3 five minute session. Ryan Hamilton scored the only goal on either side in the shootout as Bakersfield came out with the 2-1 shootout victory

The Barracuda falls to 5-6-0-2 overall with a 4-2-0-1 record on the road.

Patrick McNally, Chris Crane, Daniel Doremus and Frazer McLaren (injured) did not dress for the Barracuda...Micheal Haley, Melker Karlsson, Nikolay Goldobin, and Mirco Mueller are all currently with the SJ Sharks....Mike Aviani made his debut for the Barracuda and wore jersey #49 - Mike signed a PTO with the club on Sunday after recording 15 points (8-7-15) in 15 games for the Florida Everblades....Alex Gallant left the game midway through the first period and did not return due to injury....Ryan Carpenter now has a three game point streak (0-4-4)....it was only the third time all year the Barracuda outshot their opponent...Bryan Lerg had a game high seven shots on goal.
