Tri-City Storm News Release

Kearney, Ne. - Storm defenseman John Marino and forwards Carson Meyer and Jake Wahlin have been named to the U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete at the 2015 World Junior A Challenge, USA Hockey announced Tuesday.

The year's tournament, held in Cobourg and Whitby, Ontario, Canada from Dec. 13-19, pits the best U-20 hockey players from Junior A leagues in the United States, Canada, Russia, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

"It's tough to find a word to describe what it feels like to represent my country at a tournament like this," said Meyer, 18. "This is the first time I'm competing against other countries. I'm so excited to play with two of my best friends and hopefully bring home the gold."

Meyer, who leads the Storm with nine goals and 16 points, brings a scoring touch to the U.S. Junior Select Team that has won gold for three straight seasons and six of the last seven years. This is the 10th season the tournament will be held.

"It's great to see three of our players have the chance to be part of a great tournamen," said Head Coach and General Manager of the Storm, Bill Muckalt. "All three have worked so hard and are excellent teammates."

Last season, former Storm defenseman Bobby Nardella, who is a freshman at Notre Dame, represented Tri-City on the U.S. Select Team roster and helped take home the gold. Wahlin, 19, played with Nardella last season.

"It means a lot for all three of us to play for our country and the Storm," said Wahlin. "It's such a huge honor to be on Team USA."

Wahlin has three goals and ten assists, the most helpers on the squad. Marino is fourth among USHL defensemen with ten points.

The U.S.'s coaching staff is littered with familiar USHL names. Fargo Force Head Coach Cary Eades is Head Coach of the Team USA, while Omaha Lancers Head Coach Brian Kaufman and Chicago Steel Associate Head Coach Dallas Steward are assistants.

"It's definitely going to be special for me but I couldn't have received the recognition without my teammates who have always helped me," said Marino.

The Storm completes its three-game set with the Sioux Falls Stampede at home, Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21, with games against the Sioux Falls Stampede.

Friday, Nov. 20 vs. Sioux Falls: Come check out Social Media Night sponsored by Hilltop Mall; students stick around after the game for a special High-School and College post-game skate with great giveaways from Coca-Cola.
