November 17, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Veteran Waterloo Black Hawks forward Liam Pecararo was one of 20 United States Hockey League players named to the U.S. Junior Select Team which will participate at the World Junior A Challenge in Ontario next month, USA Hockey announced Tuesday.
Pecararo is in his third season with the Waterloo Black Hawks. After being sidelined by a lower body injury when the schedule began, the Canton, Massachusetts native has a point in each of the five 2015/16 games he has played and a total of eight assists. Since appearing in his first game for Waterloo during the 2013/14 season, Pecararo has taken the ice 95 times in regular season action, recording 82 points (28 goals, 54 assists). He returned to Waterloo this season after spending 2014/15 as a freshman at the University of Maine.
"It's always an honor to play for your country," noted Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "Liam will bring the Junior A Challenge team the same qualities we are seeing from him here in Waterloo: veteran experience and offensive skill."
This is the tenth edition of the World Junior A Challenge and ninth time that the United States will send a team to the Under-20 event. The United States, annually made up of players from the USHL, has earned a medal in each of the previous eight tournaments, winning gold six times including last year. Team USA has won 30 of the 35 games they have played at the event, currently riding a 13-game win streak.
This season, the tournament will be in Cobourg and Whitby, Ontario, from December 13th through 19th. Other participating teams include Russia, Switzerland, Czech Republic, and two entries from Canada.
Last year, six players who spent time with the Black Hawks earned gold during the event: Brock Boeser, Blake Hillman, Cale Morris, Tom Novak, Hayden Shaw, and Tyler Sheehy.
