South Carolina's Vanecek Named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals, announced today that goaltender Vitek Vanecek has been named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Nov. 9-15.
The 19-year-old Vanecek appeared in both of South Carolina's games versus Orlando last weekend, posting a 1-0-1 record with a 0.92 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage. He stopped 21 shots, and denied all three Orlando shootout attempts, in a 2-1 victory on Friday night. He followed up the strong performance with 22 saves versus Orlando on Saturday in a 2-1 shootout loss.
The rookie goaltender is 4-4-2 on season for South Carolina and has allowed two or less goals in each of his last eight appearances. He ranks ninth in the league, and third among rookies, with a 1.99 goals-against average. The goaltender also recorded his first professional shutout in a 2-0 win over Florida on November 3.
Vanecek was selected by the Washington Capitals in the second round (39th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. A native of Havlickuv Brod, Czech Republic, Vanecek has extensive experience representing his country. He skated with the Czech Republic at the 2014 IIHF U18 World Championship, posting a 4-2-0 record with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage to help lead the Czech Republic to a silver medal.
Vanecek and the Stingrays begin a 10-game road trip this weekend. South Carolina visits Greenville at 7 p.m. on Saturday, before heading to Atlanta to battle the Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday.
