Hitmen's Houck Named WHL Player of the Week

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Calgary Hitmen forward Jackson Houck has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 15th, 2015.

Houck recorded six points (0g-6a) in two games to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a pair of victories on home ice over the weekend.

On Friday, November 13th against the Kootenay ICE, Houck tallied a pair of assists to help guide the Hitmen to a 6-0 shutout victory. The following night, Houck was named the game's second star as he recorded four points (0g-4a) in the Hitmen's 4-3 comeback win against the Tri-City Americans.

The 20-year-old North Vancouver, BC native has collected 23 points (8g-15a) in 20 games this season with 14 of those points (4g-10a) occurring in eight games as a Calgary Hitmen since being acquired from Vancouver. The 6-1, 192 lb forward is in his fifth WHL campaign and has amassed 212 points (95g-117a) in 276 career WHL regular season contests. Houck was selected in the fourth round, 94th overall, of the 2013 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers.

The WHL has also nominated Carter Hart of the Everett Silvertips for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Hart, a 1998-born netminder from Sherwood Park, AB posted two wins to go along with a 1.33 goals against average and a .944 save percentage with one shutout. On Wednesday, November 11th, Hart stopped 29 shots against the Spokane Chiefs in a 3-0 defeat and was named the game's third star for his efforts. On Friday, November 13th against the Spokane Chiefs, Hart was productive as he turned aside 15 shots to earn third star honours in the Silvertips' 5-2 win. The following night, Hart was solid as he stopped all 23 shots he faced to claim third star honours and guide the Silvertips to a 4-0 shutout win over the Swift Current Broncos. For the Silvertips netminder, the shutout victory marked his third of the season. Currently in his second full season with the Silvertips, Hart has posted a 28-11-2-5 record with seven shutouts in 48 career WHL regular season appearances.
