Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA - The Falcons won their third consecutive game on Sunday night by a 2-1 score against the Albany Devils in overtime.
The Falcons struck first with a goal that was initially waved-off by the officials at 8:45. Daniel New shot the puck from the point that forced a scramble for the rebound. Tyler Gaudet found the puck and scored a goal before the net was knocked off its moorings. His first of the season was also assisted by Eric Selleck. Louis Domingue stopped all nine shots faced in the period that included a Devils power play. The Falcons posted 11 shots on Yann Danis and held the Falcons scoreless on their lone power play in the period.
The scoreless second period saw Albany outshoot the Falcons 15-11. The Falcons had two power plays in the frame but could not convert. Springfield carried a 1-0 lead into the third.
The Devils eventually tied the game with 2:25 left in regulation. Paul Thompson scored his second of the year with a shot off the right wing boards. The goal was assisted by Vojtech Mozik and Dan Kelly to force overtime.
The teams traded chances with Albany firing four shots on Domingue in the overtime period. After a series of Domingue saves, Alex Grant found Selleck in the slot to tally the game winner. The goal was scored with 15.5 second left in the overtime and also assisted by Laurent Dauphin. Domingue won his fifth straight game with 33 saves. Danis made 35 stops and fell to 7-1-3.
