EDMONTON, ALTA. - The Edmonton Oil Kings lost the special teams battle Saturday night to the Prince George Cougars and subsequently lost the game.

Prince George (10-7-1-0) finished 3-4 with the man advantage and added a shorthanded goal as the Oil Kings (7-11-3-0) fell 6-1 in Prince George.

"We got behind early due to penalties and chased the game the rest of the night," said Oil Kings head coach Steve Hamilton.

The Cougars set the tone early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first with goals on both halves of a five-on-three man advantage from Tate Olson and Jared Bethune.

"We never really gave ourselves a chance to get in sync," Hamilton said.

The Prince George special teams struck again in the second for Prince George as Jesse Gabrielle scored shorthanded and Brogan O'Brien notched the Cougars' third power-play goal of the night. Gabrielle also tallied at even strength in the period to give Prince George a 5-0 lead after two periods.

Brad Morrison made it 6-0 Prince George early in the third period before Dario Meyer broke the goose egg for Edmonton with his fourth goal of the season.

Payton Lee made 25 saves in his first appearance in goal for the Oil Kings after being acquired from Vancouver last Thursday.

Nick McBride made 27 saves to get the win for the second night in a row for the Cougars. Gabrielle and Morrison both paced the Prince George offence with three points apiece.

Edmonton will continue their B.C. road trip Tuesday night when they visit the Vancouver Giants.
