San Jose outshot San Diego 13-6 in the second period and took a 4-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Gulls poured the pressure on in the third period as they fired 21 shots and scored twice in the final six minutes of the third period to cut the Barracuda lead to 4-3. Nic Kerdiles (3rd) scored a 5-on-3 power play goal at 14:42 and Chris Mueller (3rd) fired home a rebound with 2.1 seconds left but it was too little too late for San Diego as Troy Grosenick stood tall and finished with 32 saves in net.
