Orlando Solar Bears News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Orlando Solar Bears (6-3-1-1), proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and the AHL's Toronto Marlies, were buoyed by the stellar play of goaltender Rob Madore on their way to a 2-1 shootout win over the South Carolina Stingrays (7-5-1-1) in front of a crowd of 3,578 on Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Brendan Ellis' shot from the left point at 15:07 made its way through traffic to beat Madore and put the Stingrays ahead.

Madore would come up big however later in the frame during a Solar Bears penalty kill, as the goaltender flung himself across the crease to make a point-blank save on South Carolina's Brett Cameron.

The Solar Bears tied the score in the second period while on the power play as Brett Findlay received a feed in the slot from Denver Manderson and wristed a shot past the glove of Vitek Vanecek at 11:38.

The third period resulted in no additional goals for either team; in overtime, Madore continued to deny the Stingrays, including a stunning glove save on Derek DeBlois during a two-on-none situation.

The game eventually went to the shootout, and Manderson netted the shootout-winner for Orlando.

Madore earned the victory with a 29-save effort on 30 shots; Vanecek took the shootout loss with 22 saves on 23 shots.
