Amarillo Bulls News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Amarillo Bulls have had a hard time solving the Lone Star Brahmas the past couple of seasons.

The Bulls dropped their seventh straight game to the Brahmas, a 4-1 decision on Friday night at NYTEX Sports Center in North Richland Hills. The Brahmas have not lost a game to the Bulls since December in the Texas Panhandle. Amarillo has not won a game in Lone Star since the 2013-14 season.

The difference in Friday's game was a three-minute stretch when the Brahmas fired two goals to snap a close 2-1 game. It was Johan Lundgren that got the Bulls close early in the second period, but after that it was all Lone Star. Anton Martinsson took the loss in goal for Amarillo facing just 27 shots.

It was a slow start to the game for the Amarillo Bulls as they were not able to get their first shot until the midway mark of the stanza. The Brahmas drew first blood on an odd man rush up the ice as Kyle Patava was able to put a screen shot through. Anton Martinsson played well and most of the 10 shots he faced came from the outside.

Lone Star extended their lead to 2-0 early in the second period with a power play goal that was netted from the high slot area. Just over a minute later, Johan Lundgren skated down the far wall and hammered a shot through goaltender Conor O'Brien to pull the Bulls to within a goal.

Four minutes later, the Brahmas attack got rolling as a shot from the near the face-off circle deflected off a stick and behind goaltender Martinsson. The hometeam made it 4-1 near the midway mark of the period when defenseman Bud Madej shot the puck through traffic and found the back of the net. The final five minutes saw the Bulls get their chances and nearly carve into the deficit. Lundgren and George Mika's shots were denied by O'Brien. Mika missed on the power play in the final few minutes of the stanza. The Brahmas outshot the Bulls 12-9.

The third period was tight defensive battle with both teams working hard. Defenseman The Bulls had the best chance when defenseman Matt Nehls took off on a 2 on 1 shorthanded, but his shot was blocked by the defense.
