Toledo Walleye News Release
(Manchester, NH) A.J. Jenks scored a goal with a pair of assists but the Walleye lose to the Monarchs in Manchester Friday night. Toledo has an overall record of 4-5-0-1 and is 4-4-0-1 on the road.
The Monarchs picked up a pair of goals, one at even strength and another on the power to open up a 2-0 lead in the first fifteen minutes of the first period. A.J. Jenks (2nd) intercepted a pass in the Manchester zone and raced between the circle for a wrist shot that beat goaltender Michael Houser at 17:04.
In the second period, Kyle Bonis picked up his second goal of the season at 7:50 when he deflected a pass from Shane Berschbach. Alden Hirschfeld beat Houser with a wrist shot from the right circle at 8:58 to put the Walleye in front 3-2. The 4th goal of the season from Hirschfeld was Toledo's first shorthanded goal of the season.
Manchester tied the game with a goal less than a minute into the third period. Toledo regained the lead when defenseman Joel Chouinard jumped on a rebound at 6:04 of the third period. The Monarchs beat Jeff Lerg with a pair of goals in 59 seconds to take the lead for good. The game-winner came on a wrist shot from Micheal Boivin at 11:46 that was just under the crossbar.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 32 of the 37 shots he faced and his record is 3-2-1 on the season. Tonight was the first time the Walleye have scored three or more goals since a 4-1 win at Brampton on October 30 (a span of 4 games). Toledo finished 0-4 on the power play and has not scored a power play goal in 23 straight opportunities.
