Checkers Add Agosta and Cornell to Blue Line

Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - To shore up their depleted blue line, the Checkers have added two defensemen, recalling Justin Agosta and signing Mike Cornell to a professional tryout contract.

Agosta, who made his AHL debut in Sunday's win over Manitoba at Bojangles' Coliseum, took advantage of the Checkers' four-day break between games by suiting up for the Florida Everblades' 8-2 victory in Atlanta on Tuesday. He scored his fifth goal of the season in that contest, giving him nine points in 11 ECHL games this season.

Cornell, who has four points (1g, 3a) in 13 games this season with the Everblades, joined the Checkers on a PTO last season as well. He appeared in 18 games for Charlotte, recording five points (1g, 4a) and 76 penalty minutes during his stint.

The moves give the Checkers' ailing blue line six healthy options heading into this weekend's back-to-back matchup with the Milwaukee Admirals. Danny Biega, Tyler Ganly and Keegan Lowe have all been absent from practice this week.
