Weekend Preview: IceMen at Kalamazoo and Wheeling
November 12, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
SWEDISH WORKHORSE
Rookie goaltender Christoffer Bengtsberg has started four consecutive games for the IceMen. The Stockholm, Sweden native notched his first ECHL victory Friday, November 6 vs. Indy, when the IceMen earned their first home win of the season 4-2. Bengtsberg is 1-3-0, and has stopped 95 of the 106 shots he's faced.
HE'S BAAAAACK
IceMen center Daultan Leveille is quietly putting together an impressive start to the season, after spending last season of pro hockey playing for Rouen over in France. The St. Catherines, ON native has a point in four of his last five games, including goals in two straight contest. Leveille scored Evansville's game-winning goal Friday vs. Indy in the team's 4-2 win, and added a power-play goal in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Cincinnati. In 2013-14, Leveille scored 22 goals and added 25 assists in 66 games for the IceMen.
MEDIUM WINGS
Kalamazoo is 4-2 -1 in its last seven games entering Friday's game against Evansville. The Wings bounced back from a 0-4 start, before earning home wins over Indy and Cincinnati, and road victories at Wheeling and Fort Wayne over the course of their next five games. However, Kalamazoo dropped Sunday's game to the Komets 5-2 and Tuesday's contest to Manchester 7-3 at the Wings Event Center. Veteran goalie Joel Martin made his 500th professional appearance last Saturday and has started 10 of the team's 11 games, going 4-5-1 with a .912 save percentage. He leads the league in minutes played (614) and saves (374).
HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD
The IceMen won three of four against Wheeling in 2015-16, and only face the Nailers twice this season. Both meetings will be played at WesBanco Arena in West Virginia this weekend. The Nailers began a gauntlet schedule this week of five games in six days with a 7-5 comeback win Tuesday morning at home against Cincinnati. Wheeling trailed that game 5-2 late, before scoring five goals in the final 4:16 of regulation to shock the Cyclones. The Nailers lost 2-1 Wednesday night in Reading, and host the Royals Friday in the rematch, before welcoming Evansville Saturday and Sunday.
