Tri-Cities got on the board with a shorthanded goal from Beau McCue at 14:05 to cut it to 5-1, which remained the score going into the third.

The Americans' Morgan Geekie scored at 9:00 to bring the Americans within three at 5-2. At 14:38 with the Hawks on a 5-on-3 power play, Bukarts slid a pass to Keegan Iverson, who banged in a one-timer to make it a 6-2 lead, which remained the final.

Michael Bullion got the start in net for the Hawks and was terrific, stopping 29 of the 31 shots he faced from the Americans. Tri-Cities' Evan Sarthou allowed six goals on 34 Portland shots.

With his goal in the third period, Iverson extended his point streak to six games, while defenseman Jack Dougherty had three assists.
