Texas Charge News Release

McKinney, TX - Dallas Charge GM Kevin Shelton continues to solidify the Charge roster for the 2016 season and beyond. The most recent move designed to keep a winner on the field is the extension of the contract of Kaylyn Castillo. Castillo, the four year NPF veteran, inked a two-year deal, keeping her in a Charge uniform through the 2017 season.

Castillo returns as the most veteran player on the Charge. Her professional experience also includes some time in the Japanese league. In 2015 NPF season Castillo hit .258 with five doubles and seven RBI.

"I am thrilled to be signing with the Dallas Charge for the 2016 season. I think in our inaugural season we were able to accomplish a lot of the goals we set for ourselves and really show the people of Texas what the Dallas Charge brand is all about," Castillo related. "I see nothing but greatness in our future and I can't wait to be a part of it again. It will be even more exciting this year as we play a brand new team in the Scrap Yard Dawgs of Houston. Being able to see our league grow and being a part of laying the foundation for future softball players is something I will never fully be able to put into words. I hope to inspire young girls out there to reach for their dreams and I hope to realize my own with my play this season."

Castillo spent her first two seasons with the Akron Racers after signing as a free agent in 2012. In her rookie season, she appeared in 44 games and recorded 23 hits and 10 RBIs. Statistically, her best season came in 2013 when she hit .268 with 4 homeruns and 20 RBIs. She ranked amongst league leaders with her .419 on-base percentage and her 13 assists from behind the plate ranked first amongst NPF catchers.

"Kaylyn is a mature stabilizing force on our team," General Manager Kevin Shelton said. "Personally, I like her professionalism and enthusiasm. She has a great pedigree and works hard at her craft. We are excited to be able to bring her back and know she'll be around for a few more years. This was an important step in solidifying our roster."
