Saskatoon Blades News Release
SASKATOON - The Saskatoon Blades, in partnership with PotashCorp and the Food Banks of Saskatchewan, are excited to be presenting Star Wars Night on Saturday, November 28th as the Blades battle the Evil Galactic Empire Edmonton Oil Kings.
The focus of the night will be to help raise awareness, funds, and product for the Food Banks of Saskatchewan. The team will be wearing special, ™Lucasfilm Ltd. approved, Star Wars jerseys (seen above) which depict the battle on the ice planet "Hoth" from Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back.
"We want to thank the Saskatoon Blades for the opportunity to support the Saskatoon Food Bank through one of the greatest franchises in movie history. Star Wars has generated a fan base like no other, and we're sure the Force will be with both PotashCorp and the Blades in raising money for this great cause." said Randy Burton, Director, Public Relations and Communications for PotashCorp.
Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game on November 28th, as well as monetary donations for the Saskatoon Food Bank.
Laurie O'Connor, Executive Director of the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre says the Blades have shown some great support to the food bank over the years:
"It's wonderful to see athletes supporting community based organizations and encouraging their fans to get involved. We look forward to a fantastic turnout."
O'Connor continues:
"PotashCorp's support for this event is a great example of leadership in corporate social responsibility. It's a fun and creative way to encourage our community to get involved and we are delighted to see the Blades and PotashCorp working together in support of our cause."
Not only will the night feature the specialty jerseys, characters from the iconic movie franchise will be on hand to add to the atmosphere of this special evening. The jerseys will be available for purchase through a silent auction at the game with a portion of the proceeds going to the Food Banks of Saskatchewan.
"Our vision for a Star Wars night has been in the making for a long time. We're thrilled PotashCorp, and the Food Banks are stepping forward to help us take this out of this world franchise with such a down to earth cause: hunger. We must also thank the people at Lucasfilm, who have been unbelievable to deal with." said Blades President, Steve Hogle.
The Blades are also encouraging fans to dress in their best Star Wars costumes. Prizes will be given out the best dressed fans in the rink, including tickets to the Saskatoon premiere of Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens, which hits theatres on December 18th.
Tickets are available now through all Ticketmaster locations as well as the Blades office. In the words of Master Yoda, "Do or do not, there is no try" in regards to getting your tickets to this one of a kind event!
