DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Wild (3-8-1-2, 9 points) were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters (6-2-0-2, 14 points) 3-2 in front of 4,004 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Monsters used three unanswered goals from defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk, forward Trent Vogelhuber, and forward Josh Anderson to come from behind and pick up the road win. Lake Erie goalie Anton Forsberg (4-2-0-0) stopped 14 of 16 shots for his fourth victory of the season. Iowa goalie Jeremy Smith (1-6-1-0) made 17 saves on 20 shots in the loss. Wild defenseman Zach Palmquist opened the scoring 1:39 into the game. Forwards Grayson Downing and Jared Knight each earned an assist on the play. In a flurry of shots on goal, Downing fired the puck off of Forsberg's leg pad. Palmquist backhanded the rebound past Forsberg. His second goal of the season gave Iowa a 1-0 lead. Iowa forward Kellan Lain scored his second goal in two games at 5:00 of the first period. Winning a race to the puck inside the blue line, Lain found himself on a short breakaway. Attacking the net on his backhand he slid the puck under Forsberg for a 2-0 lead.
Lake Erie defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk scored at 18:47 of the first period. The defenseman led a rush up ice, carrying the puck into the zone on the left side. Bodnarchuk fired a wrist shot towards the net, deflecting the puck off Smith's stick and into the net for his second goal of the season. Monsters forward Trent Vogelhuber tied the game 7:13 into the second period. Bodnarchuk picked up the assist on the play for his second point of the game. Bodnarchuk corralled the puck off the left boards and fired a shot towards the net. Vogelhuber tipped the shot, elevating the puck over Smith's glove for a 2-2 tie. The goal marks Vogelhuber's second on the year. Lake Erie forward Josh Anderson scored shorthanded at 17:07 of the second period. A misplayed puck behind the net caught Smith out of position. Vogelhuber picked up the puck and found Anderson wide open in front of the net. The forward one-timed the puck into the open net for his first goal of the season and a 3-2 Monsters lead.
